Dying with the River: A Story of Climate Change and Water Pollution

Riya and Rohan were childhood friends who lived in a small village near the Ganges river. They loved to play near the water, swim in the river, and collect shells and stones. They dreamed of growing up and travelling the world together.

But their dreams were shattered when climate change caused severe droughts and floods in their region. The river became polluted with industrial waste, sewage, and dead bodies. The water was no longer safe to drink or use for irrigation. Many people in their village fell sick with waterborne diseases like cholera, typhoid, and dysentery.

Riya and Rohan tried to help their families by fetching water from a nearby well, but it was not enough. They also had to work in the fields to earn some money for food and medicine. They had no time to play or study. They watched their friends and relatives die one by one.

One day, Riya fell ill with a high fever and diarrhea. Rohan rushed her to the nearest hospital, but it was too late. She died in his arms, whispering his name. Rohan was heartbroken. He blamed himself for not being able to save her. He also blamed the government, the corporations, and the world for destroying their environment and their future.

He decided to end his life by jumping into the river that had taken away everything from him. He wrote a note saying goodbye to his parents and asking them to forgive him. He tied a stone around his neck and walked into the water. He felt a sharp pain as he drowned, but he also felt a strange peace. He hoped to meet Riya again in a better place.

The End.
