Ganesha and Kartikeya were the sons of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. They were very close to each other, but they also had a friendly rivalry. One day, their parents decided to test their wisdom and intelligence. They called them and said, "We have a challenge for you. Whoever completes three rounds of the universe first will get a special fruit as a reward."
Ganesha and Kartikeya were excited and agreed to take the challenge. Kartikeya quickly mounted his peacock and flew away at a great speed. He thought he would easily win the race, as he was faster than his brother. Ganesha, on the other hand, was slow and had a mouse as his vehicle. He knew he could not compete with his brother in speed, so he thought of a clever way to win the race.
He went to his parents and said, "You are the source of everything in the universe. You are the creators, the protectors, and the destroyers. You are more than the universe itself. Therefore, I will circumambulate you three times and complete the challenge." He then bowed to his parents and started walking around them.
Shiva and Parvati were impressed by Ganesha's intelligence and devotion. They smiled and blessed him. Meanwhile, Kartikeya had traveled far and wide, covering the sun, the moon, the stars, and the planets. He finally returned to his parents after a long time. He was confident that he had won the race, but he was shocked to see Ganesha sitting next to them with the special fruit in his hand.
He asked them what had happened, and they explained how Ganesha had completed the challenge by circling them three times. Kartikeya felt angry and cheated. He said, "This is not fair! He did not follow the rules! He did not go around the universe! He just took a shortcut!" He threw his peacock and stormed away.
Ganesha felt sorry for his brother. He ran after him and tried to console him. He said, "Brother, please don't be angry. You are faster and stronger than me. You have traveled the whole universe and seen many wonders. I have not seen anything beyond our parents. You are more deserving of this fruit than me. Please take it and enjoy it."
Kartikeya was touched by Ganesha's generosity and humility. He realized that he had been foolish and arrogant. He hugged his brother and apologized for his behavior. He said, "No, brother, you are more deserving of this fruit than me. You have shown me the true meaning of wisdom and devotion. You have taught me a valuable lesson today. Please keep this fruit and share it with me."
Ganesha smiled and agreed to share the fruit with his brother. They both went back to their parents and offered them the fruit as a token of their love and respect. Shiva and Parvati were very happy to see their sons united and harmonious. They praised them both for their virtues and gave them their blessings.
The moral of the story is that wisdom is not measured by speed or power, but by intelligence and devotion. It is also important to be humble and generous towards others, especially our siblings.
